So they not only know nothing. They don't even know what they don't know.
Without sarcasm, I believe all the general sciences were far more advanced immediately after World War II than they are now.
Modern "science" is just one big gag reel put together by charlatans, frauds, fakes and tenure leeches.
Professor Stannard argues that it is impractical to go on building ever larger and more powerful machines to keep seeking new breakthroughs. M-Theory – Stephen Hawking’s preferred explanation of the content of the universe – could not be tested without a particle accelerator the size of a galaxy.
Of course it would be the size of a galaxy. Of course it would. Let's get started building that thing right away, since Steve thinks it's a good investment. Now should we make that check out for cash or for the bearer? Let's endorse the back so you can get that thing cleared at the liquor store across the street.
Contrast with the 18th century when most scientists made their breakthroughs with common household lab equipment they built without funding and in doing so discovered some of the fundamental laws of the universe. Steve needs a particle accelerator the size of the galaxy to prove his notions valid. On the other hand, he could just be a delusional man in the advanced stages of degenerative disease showing the characteristic dementia that accompanies this kind of illness. In any case, we should start on that particle accelerator right away. It's sure to be worth the work.
This is a declining civilization. You're living in it, now, at this moment. It won't go back up ever again until it has completed a round circuit trip to the uttermost bottom.

Actually, a very bold comment by Murray Rothbard was that its not scientific progress by itself that mattered, but capital.
Now, one might accuse that fringe economist of hyperspecializing and putting maximum emphasis on his own field, but he was right.
Today, when you have billions of dollars of funding for scientific research - billions taxed from even struggling families! - the point of scientific research is merely to get that funding. It's an input-focused venture, where the objectives are achieved the moment the funding is obtained. Those people don't have to put their money where their mouth is - a scientist is evaluated by the peer review of another scientist, who is evaluated by another scientist.
The direction of scientific progress is much more meaningful, when you have to pay a 16% p.a. interest on long-term loans, when you have to raise low equity funding in return for 90% stake in your company, and when you have to painfully negotiate such financing all over again for every small milestone. Make the scientist put his money where his mouth is, and that's why in 1970s Silicon Valley computer technology advanced faster than physics did.
Money is scarce, and a huge return on capital is the only way of forcing a good use of it. And for scientific discoveries that you still can't make use of yet, capital forces work on more immediate demands, and not distant needs - nobody can mass produce and have mass use for Concord flights in this day and age, but that didn't stop Britain and France from impoverishing their countries to run them.
Tex, I have all the answers. I am super smart so you must believe me. Unfortunately we can't test my claims without spending all the money in the world and millions of years building a giant boondoggle, so you'll have to take my word for it. That's how science works..right?

prateek sanjay! fancy meeting you here
Anon 12:33, That is a wonderful description of the scientific industry.
I was associated with a man who was a professor at the University of Connecticut. He was able to get a very sizable Federal research grant to study the causes and possible treatment of arthritis. He studied chicken joints. He parlayed that into a bigger Federal endowment at an Institute in Miramar, CA.
He produced little, his results were inconclusive and did little to aid in the treatment of this affliction.
He, on the other hand, benefited greatly from all this with a fat "paycheck".
He rode the gravy train and didn't get off!
It's slowly being put out there into the mainstream media....they way they can say we told you so ....but as per normal everyone back to sleep nothing to see

I've been reading vault-co for 3 years now and reading what Tex has wrote since the early 00s. In the last 6 months or so I've been reading more and more stuff in the mainstream media, reading on forums and hearing from people in day to day discussions, stuff which could have been directly quoted from vault-co. In particular, the collapse of the US and what will happen to the huge pile of nukes in the near future. Some have speculated that an all out nuclear war is in the works, but suggestions of building a nuclear bunker produce that stare reserved for nutters.
There really is just a haze which blocks the thought processes in most minds.
Here's a link you'll enjoy.

Would anything less than a global nuclear holocaust make this ongoing farce seem like a serious play you can take seriously,,,

U.N appoints space ambassador for aliens
As ludicrous as it sounds it really does appear like the great deception will take the form of a staged invasion.
It's been written about in books (the author later killed)
Talked about by presidents and
Pushed by the media and we've caught glimpses already.
All of these are well worth a click through too.
The Mano Cornuto - Eye of Horus - Salute to Isis - Dragon Claw - Cosmos - Serpent Fangs - Hand of Fatima and the Catholics
Along with everyone's favourite disinfo bullshit artists David Icke (Hand of Fatima) and Alex Jones (Dragon Claw).
Of course for those of you who'd rather remain PROFANE maybe you'd prefer to frantically masterbate like a barnyard animal to drug riddled, bi-sexual Lindsey Lohan while listening to Justin Bieber (IHS = Isis, Horus, Set)
If you make an appropriate post on the top link, could you stick this under it Mark?

"...about 5 years until we see the tethered version" (in field use) "and another 3-5 years for the non-tethered version"
So what's the bet that the Chinese will have a knock-off version of their own out in half that time now?
