Vault-OS : Update - 16 Bit DOS Versions
I was working on my new Vault-OS site, customizing the theme and getting it looking sharp ... when Turkish hackers with political propaganda crashed my site as well as nearly every single site hosted on my server. You may have seen these pages in the past week when checking my other URLs.
The hosting company has moved everybody with their basic domains to a whole new server but the SQL databases remained behind. I now have to rebuild my web sites this week to get them ready again.
Anyway, here's my strategy.
Last night I broke up my monolithic PowerBasic DOS program into modules, which I intend to release individually for testing by other people. Instead of one big fat program, you will be able to run these alone or under a multitasker for DOS like DesqView-X or DR. DOS.
The first module to be released will be the VOSCoder - a 16 bit DOS program designed to do nothing but control the Vault through a combination of I2C Sensors and LPT relays. It is completely programmable, has it's own bytecode language and interpreter and is portable from the 16 bit version to the 32 bit engine that runs on Win NT/32 bit Windows. It sends and receives messages on the network in real-time in IPX packets and will be designed to run even without a monitor or mouse where needed.
The second one to be released after that will be the inventory/storage manager, a pretty big program designed to work around a CueCat barcode scanner, a label printer that takes serial codes for input and a file system to store the DB4 database. This is designed to manage all facets of inventory using barcoding of stock and recognition through the CueCat.
The third module will be the Personnel/Medical management database, which keeps detailed track of all people in the shelter and what their medical status/requirements are.
I think I will get these three out there, get them tested by people and see what the feedback is. If they are all working and easy for others to put to use, I intend to write the first draft of my VOS manual to cover these three and see how that sells. If it is well received, I will update this manual frequently as I add other modules.
Once the 16 bit version reaches saturation, I will begin to introduce the Windows 32 bit tools and software that work in sync with it. Should keep me pretty well occupied during the coming year.

I can't begin to tell you how useful one of these would be to me. I am anxious to get one as soon as I can afford it.
When I got to the part about it printing off electrical conductors I almost wet my pants. The possibilities boggle the mind. To think I could print custom casings, keyboard trays, view shields and the actual circuit boards for Vault-OS devices is thrilling.

Nice. We called it the "Apocalypse Trifecta" a decade ago.
The worst possible natural changes to the climate and tectonic events all occurring in synchronization with the collapse of the West, demographic divisions, nuclear proliferation, food supply failure and corresponding worldwide failure of the economy. You couldn't make this stuff up.
Katla got a copy of the script - right on time. Katla is not the only one, it just seems to be the next one to blow. Iceland itself is shaking all over.

Everybody is Scrambling For The Vault Now
It's really a good time for me to publish my book. I better buckle down and finish up Vault-OS.
I did a food run this morning, it's Saturday. Got a 60 kg bag of oats (my mandatory staple purchase) and 96 cans of Spam Oven Roasted Turkey. Gotta love that Spam. I also bought a box of Golden Rough chocolate hockey pucks sealed in foil, but I just had to test one of them with a cup of tea. Purely research, of course.
I'm supposed to be working on about a dozen things right now, but instead I'm posting here with you to make up for all the neglect of this blog during the week prior. I hope this tides you over a while, I guess I better get stuck into it. I've got a To-Do list here with about 25,000 things on it, I'll just start with the top.

The Hopi Prophecy
I don't place much stock in prophecy. Besides, the science is much scarier than some ambiguous prediction could ever be.
As the northern hemisphere seems primed to turn into a pure sea of oil, I was reminded of the Hopi Prophecy I read many, many years ago about the sea turning black. I thought at the time that it wasn't very likely that was going to happen, ever ... and I dismissed it as some crazy injun gibberish probably invented to spook tourists.
With the Deepwater Horizon rig disaster, it doesn't seem to just be some old ranting by some indians any more. Read the other signs listed in the sequence. Stuff like that would be kind of hard to see that far in advance. It appears someone did.
I know they are kept suitably vague and symbolic to keep you guessing ... but sometimes I wonder. Is it possible that there is a part of the human consciousness that is not bound to time? I don't know. I am undecided on the subject. Even if it is the case, it is obvious that this vision is very subjective and hardly an exact science. Was Edgar Cayce really seeing catastrophes in his visions as described in his sleep trances? Or was he seeing something? and then embellishing it with details that were unknown to him, in order to get revenues out of lonely middle aged women? Is there a collective consciousness capable of passing imperfect details about things that have not yet happened which sometimes leak into the standard, normal functioning of the human brain? I am not sure. I don't know for a fact. I have suspicions. I'm not convinced of anything in this regard. I most certainly did not start work on my own shelter because of Mayan prophecies or anything else based on some vague notion of clairvoyance. I started on my shelter ten years ago because I knew the facts.

Was Edgar Cayce really seeing catastrophes in his visions as described in his sleep trances? Or was he seeing something? and then embellishing it with details that were unknown to him, in order to get revenues out of lonely middle aged women? Is there a collective consciousness capable of passing imperfect details about things that have not yet happened which sometimes leak into the standard, normal functioning of the human brain? I am not sure. I don't know for a fact. I have suspicions. I'm not convinced of anything in this regard. I most certainly did not start work on my own shelter because of Mayan prophecies or anything else based on some vague notion of clairvoyance. I started on my shelter ten years ago because I knew the facts.

Vault-OS MS-DOS 16 Bit -> Win32 Bit Working!!!
Essentially, Vault-OS needed to be seamless. Whether a program is running the PowerBasic DOS program, the VB-DOS Client or the Win32 C++ Builder front end, everything needed to communicate happily via two formats : DB4 database files and IPX messaging over an Ethernet connection. I own a copy of the BULLET database for PowerBasic and it writes DB4 compatible files, very quickly I might add. You can write out terabytes of food storage records in the time it takes MS-SQL server just to open a handle to a database. (I would never use MS-SQL, of course)
I think I've been faffing about with this for at least six years or more trying a lot of different approaches, usually with mixed results. :(
I tried a lot of stuff to wedge the 16 bit DB4 database files written by Vault-OS DOS into the Win32 system, including writing an NT service to copy them forward into an SQLLite database whenever the DB4 file has been written to.
Crap. Crap solution. Just doesn't have the elegance I was desperately seeking. I always felt kind of queasy, because I could not find a pass-through solution between shared databases in DB-IV compatible formats, in either 16 or 32 bit. This problem has been depressing me, actually.
Many of you who downloaded the CD Commander source code a couple years back probably noticed I was using SQLLite DB to store the files in. That was not going to happen. SQLLite is a totally proprietary format and not easily shared between different operating systems at all. I would never make that the universal database format.
Then I found the tool at the link above and compiled it into my Win-32 Vault-OS version. I was immediately able to surf from my Win NT Box to a connected MS-DOS box and open the database it was using to store all it's I2C sensors and data, as well as inventory and personnel records. Things like this make me pee my pants with excitement when they work out.
Once you've got the database handles shared freely and lockable across the network, the IPX common protocol was a snap. The inventory and other databases can be located on any machine, even scattered out on anything running, including the DOS client. Participants lock that file if they need to write to it.
I must have maybe a half dozen embedded x86 PCs that only have 2 megs or so of memory. These devices are intended to be dedicated to things like generator power and battery charging management - as a kind of cloud "service" to all participating devices they can see and share transparently. They are never going to be running anything more than MS-DOS, Powerbasic client and MS Lan Manager for DOS.
So that's good.
Of course, once all the data used by Vault-OS is in DB4 format, it's no longer "tethered" to the application. There are tons of abandonware applications that can be used to surf, repair, edit and modify these databases. In the event of a crash or a corruption (it can happen), you don't have to hang yourself in a Post-Apocalyptic funk. Instead you can get on your machine and have a look at the DBs, repair them, rebuild your box with any x86 device (let's say a radioactive ghoul tore it down and completely smashed it up) and go back to operations as usual. The important thing is that if you cannot get in touch with Texas Arcane following the bomb or magnetic reversal, it's not the end of the world. Your data is there in a generic enough format you don't need to get me in as a consultant to fix it for you or get support from me on the phone. Vault-OS is about independence, indestructibility and open standards. If the finished program doesn't require anything but some elbow grease to fix anywhere, anytime for the next 100 years, I will have succeeded beyond my wildest dreams. Even if Homunculus has me tied to the hood of his hot rod, I will be smiling thinking about all the Vault-OS systems out there running on forever.
I am working on the web site for Vault-OS. It looks pretty good, built on top of WordPress. Nice presentation. Should go public as soon as I can get it ready.

The Truth Begins To Come Out
I am only posting this so I can mark the date and tell you in advance.
I understood Asperger's Autism correctly 16 years ago. I knew exactly what it was, what causes it and why it happens. I know what it means and why it is so important to human history.
I know a lot of things I can't talk about. Sometimes I have to wait decades for the rest of mankind to catch up. Some of the things sound so crazy I can't say them out loud, but if I wait ten or twenty years they eventually become comprehensible to others in the light of new information. I usually have to wait for an ordinary person to claim he has a new and original idea before I can then concede what I have thought previously about that subject for a long time.
I figured out a long time ago who I am and began to understand what happened to human genetics in the past 100,000 years.
Here's the short version :
Aspergers Autism has nothing to do with autism. Nothing at all.
Autism may have something to do with what triggers it's expression. Any insult to the human body or genetic damage at the right developmental age can have the exact same effect. The autism sometimes seen in combination with it is only incidental to the Asperger's itself.
Asperger's is something altogether different and it has nothing to do with brain damage, at least not in the sense it does with real autism.
Something happens to reset the existing genetic expression at the right developmental age that forces the human body to go into the legacy genes to rebuild and repair existing damage. For most children afflicted, it might be an allergic reaction to something in a vaccine. It is possible it could happen in a dramatic and radical fashion in response to something like a child being exposed to intravenal sodium lye between 18 months and 24 months of age. Sodium lye, commercial brand name also known as "Drano."
Here's the deal.
It gets the wrong set of genes for repairs.
Note I didn't say inferior genes. I said the wrong genes are retrieved in the rebuild.
These genes are not inferior at all.

Even in these carefully vetted, reviewed and sanitized photographs, I spotted a dozen pillars with the characteristic 45 degree angle cuts with melted edges that are only seen in a controlled demolition with thermite charges.
To be honest ... I'm bored with this subject.
For me, I just don't care any more what others think about it. It's not even a topic for me any longer. The whole planet could differ and it really wouldn't matter to me in the least.
I will say one thing.
Modern people are really, really, really stupid. Really stupid.
Stupid enough that part of you has to begin to wonder if maybe world government would be a good idea for critters like these.
Global government would be the worst failure in human history.

I don't want you to think I'm a snob. I recognize the common humanity I share with others.
... but people this stupid, might they benefit from intelligent adult supervision? They are obviously incompetent to simply administrate their own lives. If they can't see this was a controlled demolition by now ... you have to consider if we are applying the word human with too broad a brush.

Paper Currency Preparing To Crater Worldwide
Fiat money doesn't work.
Period.
It's a fun ride as long you get off before the music stops. Woe onto those people who are living when the piper comes to collect his due. Fiat money always ends up in a huge, nightmarish crash that brings everyone down.
I guess some people are naturally drawn to boom-bust cycles and want to play drama queen. If there were no crisis they would simply invent one.
People who want stable and prosperous civilizations don't abandon metal standards for arbitrary paper systems. It's not something that sane people do.
Period.

How NOT To Build A Shipping Container Shelter
This is nearly a perfect guide to exactly the WRONG way to construct a shelter using a shipping container. These folks have built themselves an almost perfect death trap. Having had personal experience with precisely the same sort of mistakes, I can promise you that at some point this shelter will fold sideways and accordion the humans inside it. It is only a matter of time. It will make for a very horrible and messy death when it happens, as well. Being pinched by several tons of concrete should leave you enough time to know what has happened to you and what a terrible error in judgement you made.
I would recommend you study this video until you know for a fact what they did wrong here, before you attempt to build using a shipping container. I am leaning strongly towards several for my next shelter and I already know you would NEVER build it the way shown here.

I knew about all of these problems previously, but after reviewing them at this link above I realized that a shipping container is as lousy an idea as it seems. You cannot turn a sow's ear into a silk purse. I think that the ICF box with the arch barrel on top (Hoag Shelter Design) is still the most effective compromise between a full blown pipe like Firehold Bravo and a comfortable living space.

Pack it. The caloric value of white rice is that it only need be combined with something that has a few vitamins in it to make a meal.

What was the Deepwater Horizon Well?
It was a concerted attempt to repeat the Brazilian success at finding abiotic oil by drilling through the salt layer on the floor of the ocean.
They were at the farthest range of modern drilling, 30,000 feet down, when an explosion of high pressure natural gas blew backwards up the pipe and literally trashed the entire oil rig on top of itself, making the leak almost inaccessible. Following the wave of natural gas was a tsunami of oil from down there unlike anything man had even dreamt might be present under the earth.
Oil is abiotic. Deepwater Horizon proved it and was lost at the moment it was discovered, the instant it broke into the reservoir down there.
The entire Gulf of Mexico is on the verge of being turned into the world's largest oil sump because all previous theories about the formation of oil (a hydrocarbon produced under pressure) were absolutely wrong.

Kwanzania Is A Hollowed Out Shell
The entire nation is a used condom. It's a grease rag soaked in diesel and pork fat. It's that filthy corner of the garage you never get around to cleaning. It's been passed around for fun more often than Barack Obama's mom. If Amerikwa was a pile of dirty dishes, they'd be the kind you realize it's better to throw away than to try to make them clean enough to eat off again. There is nothing here worth salvaging and nobody willing to even tackle the problem.

Jung was right. Men can't handle much reality and what little they can has to come in very tiny doses like medicine for a child. I don't think their learning curve is going to catch up fast enough with what is going on.
