The farming post reminded me of an article I read on making food from electricity and air. You could use solar cells and produce food anywhere on the planet so that deserts could be huge food producers. The protein could be fed to animals and fish. Since photosynthesis is only about 2% efficient and solar ins 20% or better the productivity gain would be astounding. Truly astounding. The people saying starvation is right around the corner are screwed. As the future comes I think at some point they would be able to take these simple organisms and splice into their gene pool the taste of various foods and meats. Exciting.
