Fred Hoyle is still an idiot though because he didn't represent the consensus.
Now that he turned out to be right, he is still wrong because when he said it he did not have a consensus behind him which means he will always be wrong no matter how right he apparently was. You can only be right when scienmagistical types vote it is right.
I've set up a zeer pot using a couple of ceramic pots from the hardware store - the shape and weight of them is important because the inner pot can have a tendency to move around if you put too much water in the gap. Also they don't work too well on humid days due to the reduced evaporation. But when it's hot, they're great.

Yeah, and our ancestors were a bunch of "idiots" compared to how smart we are in "civilized" society today.
If you asked a bunch of eggheads to cool something without electricity nowadays, I bet my burrito they couldn't find a way to do it.
