From: http://runeberg.org/nfba/0758.html Nordisk familjebok ('Nordic family book', an encyclopedic dictionary), 1904. This reconstruction shows the impact of the fossil on popular understanding of evolution. It is correct in showing a combination of bird-like and reptile-like features, though it has reconstructed Archaeopteryx as perching (a trait only found in the Neoaves), and the tail naked except for the side feathers (the top would have been covered in feathers too).


Public domain This image was first published in the 1st (1876–1899), 2nd (1904–1926) or 3rd (1923–1937) edition of Nordisk familjebok. The copyrights for that book have expired and this image is in the public domain, because images had no named authors and the book was published more than 70 years ago.
